Corey's Converted Barn
House Tour

Name: Corey James Gash
Location: Costa Mesa, California
Size: 700 square feet, plus 220 square feet
Years lived in: 8 months

Corey's the kind of guy that can figure out how to do almost anything. Not only does he love to figure out creative ways to solve problems, but he's really good at it. Case in point, he turned a dilapidated barn into a modern home almost completely on his own using skills he already had plus a little help from Google. And did we mention he only spent $3,600 on the whole renovation and was able to do it green?

Acido Dorado
Weekend Getaway

Name: Acido Dorado
Location: Joshua Tree, California
Size: 1,350 square feet

About a year ago, we were contacted by architect Robert Stone about a project he had just completed out in Joshua Tree, an unique ebony washed pavilion specifically designed as a vacation destination with a "new desert aesthetic". He called it Rosa Muerta. But we just remember it as possibly the most unique place we've ever stayed in. During that short stay we noted hundreds of feet away Robert was busy working on another structure, a yin to Rosa Muerta's yang. Last weekend Robert invited us to be the first guest occupants of the recently completed Acido Dorado, a golden desert getaway...

Happy Sacks Goldfish & Christmas Pudding Trash Bags

Pricey? Yes. Unnecessary, yup. Likely to bring a smile amongst your neighbors as you take out the trash on collection day? Almost guaranteed. Happy Sacks offers two Wieden + Kennedy designed bags: a dessert themed Christmas pudding and our favourite, goldfish in a bag...

Working With A Shade-y Home

[One of our two windows that didn't really see the light]

When we lived in New York a few years ago, we thought we had found the perfect studio with a full kitchen, a dishwasher, great layout, an exposed brick wall and two big windows. Once we moved in, we realized that the apartment was...

Casa Surf Project
10 Surf, Skate, & Coastal Themed Rooms

Growing up in Southern California, there's a good probability you'd grow up either surfing and/or skating. Living miles away from the beach, but in a suburban hood with plenty of flood control embankments and smooth sidewalks meant my younger Aquanet coiffed hair and baggy Vision Street Wear fashioned self was one of those !%#$ skaters. I've always retained a admiration for the lifestyle, especially the aesthetics. Thus, I quite like these skate, surf and Southern California coast-themed rooms...

I am the world's worst decision maker. Given a choice between two things I can agonize for hours or weeks over which one to choose and still, when I make a decision, I'm always wondering, "Did I make the right choice?" When I was doing the Cure, it was this week, retail therapy, that was the one I dreaded the most. I was going to have to plunk down my cash for stuff, because of my budget most of it on Craig's List, that I had to make snap decisions on and that was not returnable. Oddly enough, however, when this week came, I knew exactly what I wanted, including a pair of orange lamps I chased down from Alex on This is Not Ikea. Woooah, what? How did I do that?...

Kitchen Tour: Daniel's (Kitchen) Cure-Inspired Project

With the Fall 2009 Kitchen Cure in full swing, we have perhaps the most perfectly timed kitchen tour for you today. This tour comes from reader Daniel, who "inadvertently" started his own kitchen cure a few months ago. He wanted to just take care of one small problem: a cracked floor. Well, this repair ballooned into a much larger project, but the end result is a marked improvement!

Embellish Invites: With Thread

Recently, we received the loveliest handmade card that was embellished with thread. Simple but unique, the extra bit of time that went into making the card really wowed us. So much so that we still have the invite (and we never hang onto cards after the event has passed)...

On The Set: Monster-In-Law

110509_monsterHouse.jpgA long, long time ago, I confessed to watching Monster-In-Law while hungover and obsessing over the decor and ignoring the storyline. This was long before we ever started doing On the Set features; so when I received a few emails from folks wanting more details of this lovely Pasadena Craftsman home, I figured: why not? Here's a few photos from the movie of Charlie and Kevin's home...

Colour Galore from the Apartment Therapy LA Flickr Pool

We realized it had been awhile since we last checked our Apartment Therapy Los Angeles Flickr pool, a way for active Flickr users to easily share their images with both us and our readers. What we've always loved about spaces shared in our pool is the abundance of colour, from subtle pastels to strong primary hues. We thought we'd share ten of our favourite images this evening from the most recent uploads...

Window Coverings for High Ceilings?
Good Questions

Q: My husband and I recently bought and moved into a house. I have to choose the curtains for the living room, but I am not sure which is the best option…it has high ceilings. Please does anyone who lives with high ceilings have recommendations/sources for curtains for windows like mine?

Need More Work Space: Add a Hutch

Instead of going horizontal with our work/storage space (where things can easily be out of reach), we like to go vertical. And while shelves are usually a great alternative, sometimes drilling holes into your wall isn't an option...
