How to: Make an Outdoor Chandelier
Sunset Magazine

02.24.09_Chandelier_01.jpgThis simple candle chandelier is a great project for our DIY month here on AT. With a few elements you could create some wonderful decorations for your patio or garden. The beautiful crystals are just one way to dress up a simple wire basket.

To complete this project you will need a wire basket, a few glass jars (these could be in different colors, heights, or shapes), some crystals, beads, and candles.

You can find a wire basket at a thrift store, local flea market, or get one from many nurseries or home & garden shops. Try to find one with build-in compartments to hold the candle jars in place.

Now it is time to get creative. You could spray paint the wire basket in bright colors or keep it simple with one color scheme. We could see it in gold for vintage glamour. With just a few crystals and some glass beads attached to the bottom, your chandelier is done. This one uses clear decorations, but you could easily mix and match a few different colors and sizes. Keep in mind that translucent elements will beautifully reflect the sunlight. At night, light some candles and enjoy!

I think this is really cute. We have a little porch on our house where we keep an antique ice cream table and chairs. I think one of these would go gorgeously out there!
